First off, a shout out to the Sun Devils who won (as expected) against Stanford. Not only was it a blow-out win, but it was the first time since the Kennedy administration that we actually won a game in California.

Anyway, yesterday, I finally broke down and started Arabic classes. Knowing the foosha, I was hoping I could coast on that and pick up the local dialect (‘amiyah – or Levantine Arabic in these parts) here and there. And I did, to an extent. But I wanted more, even if it’s just to take one level’s worth of classes. So I tested and did poorly. I can carry on a decent conversation re: politics in foosha, although I may be a little rusty, but don’t ask me simple questions like what is the word for chair, etc. That’s unit 1 and 2 stuff I haven’t used in almost 10 years. Like I said, I tested poorly, so I’m only in level 2 but considering that this is ‘amiyah and not foosha, I’ll take it.

I’ll keep updating on my progress if I feel like sharing. But not now. I have to go read me some football.
